Trump Nominates Dr. Casey Means as Surgeon General After Previous Pick Withdraws

President Donald J. Trump announced Wednesday night that he would nominate Dr. Casey Means, a prominent wellness influencer and advocate of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, is the next Surgeon General.

This comes after Dr. Janette Nesheiwat withdrew her nomination following scrutiny over her medical credentials.

Dr. Means, a Stanford-trained physician and co-founder of the health tech company Levels, is well-known for her advocacy of metabolic health and criticism of the food and pharmaceutical industries. Trump praised Means as “a true MAHA champion” and said she would “lead a new era of public health in America.”

The nomination follows controversy surrounding Dr. Nesheiwat, who stepped aside after far-right commentators, including Laura Loomer, questioned her medical background.

The White House quickly moved to fill the vacancy with Dr. Means, whose brother, Calley Means, is a senior advisor at the White House and works closely with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Dr. Means is expected to work alongside Secretary Kennedy to address chronic disease and promote wellness.

Her nomination signals the Trump administration’s continued focus on alternative approaches to public health.
