Four Clubs Promoted to NPFL, Private Ownership on the Rise.

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has confirmed the promotion of Wikki Tourist, Barau FC, Warri Wolves, and Kun Khalifat to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The upcoming 2025/2026 season is scheduled to begin on August 22, 2025.

This promotion is significant as Barau FC and Kun Khalifat, both privately owned, will join Remo Stars and Ikorodu City, increasing the number of private clubs in the NPFL to four.

The growing presence of private clubs is expected to boost professionalism, attract more investment, and enhance the league’s competitiveness, though it also presents new challenges in terms of financial management and league governance.
