Trump Urged Ukraine to Consider Strikes Inside Russia, Including Moscow
U.S. President Donald Trump privately encouraged Ukraine to launch deeper strikes inside Russian territory and directly asked President Volodymyr Zelensky if Kyiv could target Moscow, according to a report by the Financial Times.
The report, citing officials familiar with the matter, said Trump raised the question during a recent phone call, asking Zelensky whether Ukraine could strike Moscow and St. Petersburg if given long-range U.S. weapons.
Zelensky reportedly replied that such attacks were feasible with the right arms, prompting Trump to express support, saying it would “make them feel the pain.”
This marks a significant shift in Trump’s tone toward Russia, as he grows frustrated with President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to end the war. The conversation allegedly followed a tense call between Trump and Putin a day earlier.
Though Trump has long criticized extended U.S. involvement overseas, this move indicates a more aggressive posture. Neither Ukrainian nor U.S. officials have publicly commented on the report.
Russian officials dismissed Trump’s remarks, warning of escalation if Moscow is targeted.
