President Donald J. Trump revealed that he hosted a high-level meeting at the White House involving top leaders from Europe and NATO, focused on securing peace and security guarantees for Ukraine.
In a statement released on social media, Donald Trump announced a significant diplomatic development in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The meeting, held at the White House and subsequently in the Oval Office, brought together prominent world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Alexander Stubb of Finland, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Also present were German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Discussions centered on establishing Security Guarantees for Ukraine through coordinated efforts among various European countries and with the United States. Trump emphasized the collective optimism about achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, Trump stated that he initiated direct contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin to set up a trilateral summit, bringing together himself, Putin, and Zelenskyy at a yet-to-be-determined location.
Trump described this as a positive, early step towards ending a conflict that has persisted for nearly four years.
He also mentioned that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, are now working to maintain coordination between Russia and Ukraine.
