NFF Backs Gianni Infantino for Another Term as FIFA President
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly pledged its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as FIFA president, joining several football associations across Africa, Asia and South America in backing his continued leadership of world football.
According to BILD, the NFF has submitted a letter of support for Infantino’s candidacy as he seeks to remain at the helm of FIFA.
The backing from Nigeria comes as Infantino continues to receive significant support from football associations and continental bodies across Africa, Asia and South America, leaving little doubt at present over his prospects of securing another term.
However, the German Football Association (DFB) has reportedly taken a different position, refusing to sign a letter endorsing Infantino’s candidacy.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf is said to have increasingly distanced himself from the FIFA president, particularly following the Balogun red card controversy.
Despite the DFB’s decision not to offer its formal backing, Infantino currently appears to have substantial support from other regions of world football, with no major threat to his re-election emerging at this stage.
