Iran’s former intelligence minister Mahmoud Alavi has been hospitalized after reportedly suffering a stroke.
Mahmoud Alavi, who currently serves as a special aide to President Masoud Pezeshkian, was admitted to intensive care following a stroke, according to multiple sources early Tuesday.
Alavi previously held the position of intelligence minister under President Hassan Rouhani and remains a prominent figure in Iran’s leadership.
Local media reports say Alavi, 71, was taken to hospital in Tehran after experiencing “significant neurological symptoms”.
The severity of his condition and further details about his treatment remain undisclosed at this time.
Alavi’s role has been instrumental in Iran’s national security apparatus for more than a decade, and his hospitalization comes at a sensitive moment for Iran’s government.
