Iran’s president: Trump has ‘no justification’ to deny Tehran its nuclear rights
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says US President Donald Trump has “no justification” to deprive Tehran of what he called its legitimate nuclear rights, amid renewed tensions over Iran’s atomic program.
Pezeshkian, quoted by Iran’s student news agency ISNA, criticized Trump for declaring that Iran cannot make use of its nuclear rights without specifying “for what crime,” and questioned Washington’s authority to restrict the country’s nuclear activities. “Who is he to deprive a nation of its rights?” he was quoted as saying, in remarks carried by regional media on Sunday.
The comments come as Washington and Tehran remain at odds over Iran’s nuclear work, years after Trump pulled the United States out of the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sweeping sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
The dispute has intensified following US allegations that Iran is rebuilding its nuclear capabilities and could move closer to weapons-grade activity, claims Tehran denies, insisting its program is for peaceful purposes.
