The ongoing court cases involving the NDC and ADC have raised concerns about the readiness of opposition parties ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections. However, the legal battles do not necessarily signal the end of either party, as both cases are still moving through the judicial process.
For the NDC, party leaders are expected to focus on appealing the court ruling and seeking a quick decision on its registration status. The party is also expected to strengthen its internal structures, keep members informed, and continue working with INEC to meet electoral requirements.
The ADC is also expected to defend its legal status through the appeal process. At the same time, the party will need to maintain unity, avoid internal divisions, and continue building grassroots support while complying with court orders and INEC regulations.
Political observers say both parties should prioritize resolving their legal disputes instead of engaging in political rhetoric. They believe speedy court hearings and cooperation with electoral authorities will provide greater certainty for party members, candidates, and supporters.
If the appeals are concluded well before key election deadlines, both parties are expected to have enough time to reorganize and prepare for the 2027 elections. However, prolonged court cases could disrupt campaign plans, candidate selection, and public confidence in the opposition.
