IRGC Vows ‘Harsh and Decisive’ Response on Second Anniversary of Haniyeh’s Death.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has renewed its vow to avenge the killing of former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, declaring that retaliation is “inevitable” and warning that its response to what it described as “major crimes” will be “harsh and decisive.”

Marking two years since Haniyeh’s assassination, the IRGC issued a statement insisting that those responsible would face consequences, while reaffirming its support for Hamas amid ongoing regional tensions.

The military organisation also dismissed efforts to disarm Hamas, claiming such initiatives “will lead to no result” and had “already failed.” The remarks come amid continued diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a lasting ceasefire and addressing the future governance and security of Gaza.

Haniyeh was killed in Tehran in July 2024 during a visit to Iran, an incident that sharply escalated tensions across the Middle East. Iran has consistently blamed Israel for the assassination and has repeatedly vowed that retaliation would come at a time and place of its choosing, while Israel has not publicly claimed responsibility.
