Liverpool Star Diogo Jota, 28, Dies in Tragic Car Crash With Brother

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car accident in Spain.

The Portugal international was involved in the fatal crash in the Zamora province, in the northwest of the country, overnight.

Reports say Jota was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva—a 26-year-old player for Penafiel—when their vehicle veered off the road and burst into flames. Both brothers were killed in the crash.

A statement from the Zamora Provincial Council on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the incident:
"Two young men have died in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria). The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station responded. The vehicle caught fire and the flames spread to nearby vegetation. The victims were 28 and 26 years old. RIP."

According to Zamora News, emergency services were alerted to the crash at around 12:40 a.m. local time. Despite firefighters extinguishing the blaze, paramedics were unable to save the occupants.

Jota’s death comes just weeks after he married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple, who share three children, tied the knot on June 22, 2025, sharing a joint post on Instagram that read: “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”
