Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly reiterated his opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state, making it clear at public events and in official statements that he does not support Palestinian statehood under his leadership.
During a visit to the Ma’ale Adumim settlement in the West Bank, Netanyahu emphasized his government’s resolve by announcing new settlement projects and declaring, “This place belongs to us,” signaling that the Israeli leadership is pressing ahead with expansion plans that many see as jeopardizing the prospect of a future independent Palestine.
He has described any attempt to establish a Palestinian state as a threat to Israel’s security, even going so far as to say that such a move would amount to “national suicide” for Israel.
Netanyahu has also dismissed international calls and United Nations resolutions advocating for a two-state solution, vowing to block any international initiative that seeks to recognize Palestinian statehood while he remains in office.
With these positions, the prime minister has drawn criticism from the international community but maintained the backing of hardliners in his government, insisting that safeguarding Israel’s territory and security is “non-negotiable”.
