Israel May Cut UK Security Ties Over Palestinian State Recognition
Israel is weighing a suspension of security cooperation with the UK if Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government formally recognizes a Palestinian state, The Times reports.
According to diplomatic sources, Israeli officials are considering ending defense and intelligence ties with Britain in response to Starmer’s push to recognize Palestine at the UN this September. The move, seen as a sharp shift in UK foreign policy, has angered Israeli leaders, who say it would reward terrorism and harm peace efforts.
The UK-Israel security relationship includes intelligence sharing and joint counterterrorism operations, with trade valued at £6 billion. Some in Israel’s cabinet warn that cutting ties could backfire, but others urge strong retaliation.
The UK has not officially confirmed its plans but says it remains committed to peace and a two-state solution.
